700 Grams of Gold Without Valid Documents Seized at Walayar Check Post

Police seized approximately 700 grams of undocumented gold bars and bangles from a passenger travelling on a KSRTC bus at the Walayar Check Post near Coimbatore. The seized gold has been handed over to the Income Tax Department for further action.

Coimbatore: Police seized approximately 700 grams of undocumented gold bars and bangles from a passenger during routine vehicle checking at the Walayar Check Post under the limits of K.G. Chavadi Police Station in Perur Sub-Division on Friday.

According to police, a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus travelling from Palakkad to Coimbatore was intercepted for inspection. During the check, Mohammed (65), a resident of Varavoor in Thrissur district, Kerala, was found carrying three melted gold bars and two gold bangles weighing around 700 grams.

The gold articles, wrapped in a white cover and kept in his pocket, were seized after he failed to produce valid documents for transporting them.

During preliminary enquiry, Mohammed reportedly informed police that his son runs a small jewellery workshop in Thrissur and that the seized gold comprised old ornaments melted at the workshop and transported from Kerala to Tamil Nadu.

As the passenger was unable to furnish documents supporting the transportation of the gold, police seized the articles for further enquiry.

The seized property was subsequently handed over to Sathyaraj, Inspector, Income Tax Department, for further action in accordance with law.

The seizure was made by Special Sub-Inspector Suresh of Madukkarai Police Station and the police personnel deployed at the Walayar Check Post during intensified vehicle checking operations.
