Coimbatore Corporation Steps Up Monsoon Preparedness

The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation has implemented multiple precautionary measures, including deployment of pumps, generators and emergency teams, to prevent flooding and ensure public safety during the southwest monsoon.

Coimbatore:

The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation has intensified precautionary measures across its five zones to mitigate the impact of the southwest monsoon and ensure public safety.

Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja said various steps have been taken in the East, West, North, South and Central zones to prevent inconvenience to residents and ensure the smooth movement of traffic during periods of heavy rainfall.

To facilitate the rapid drainage of rainwater from roads and low-lying areas, pumping systems have been installed and kept on standby at vulnerable locations across the city. At the Railway Station and Lanka Corner areas, two electric motors with capacities of 21 HP and 20 HP have been deployed.

Near the Avinashi Road flyover, five electric motors with capacities of 28 HP, 30 HP, 12.5 HP, 25 HP and 25 HP have been installed along with a 184 KW engine generator to handle potential waterlogging.

Similarly, near Kikani School, three electric motors with capacities of 28 HP, 20 HP and 7.5 HP have been positioned. At the Kaliswara Mill area, three electric motors with capacities of 36 HP, 21 HP and 21 HP, along with a 125 KW engine generator, have been kept ready for emergency operations.

The Corporation has also arranged additional tree-cutting machines and emergency personnel to swiftly clear fallen trees and branches from roads during adverse weather conditions.

Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja further stated that stormwater drains and canals across the city have been desilted and cleaned to ensure the free flow of rainwater and minimize flooding risks during the monsoon season.

The Corporation has appealed to residents to cooperate with civic authorities and report any rain-related emergencies to ensure timely action.
