In a heartwarming initiative that brought together environmental awareness and social inclusion, special children joined a plantation drive at the rejuvenated Kanuvai Check Dam during World Environment Day celebrations.
Coimbatore: In a meaningful celebration of World Environment Day, Lakshmi Ring Travellers Coimbatore Private Limited (LRT) organised an Inclusive Plantation Drive at the rejuvenated Kanuvai Check Dam, combining environmental stewardship with social inclusion. The initiative saw the participation of special children from New Bridge School, Pollachi, who experienced plantation activities in a natural ecosystem for the first time.
The programme enabled them to connect with nature, understand the importance of environmental conservation and actively contribute towards building a greener future.
The drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from LRT employee volunteers, the Koushika Neerkarangal Team and members of the Kanuvai Check Dam Rejuvenation Association. Together, they planted 100 native saplings across the check dam premises to enhance the local ecosystem and strengthen green cover in the area.

To ensure the long-term survival and healthy growth of the saplings, drip irrigation facilities have been installed at the site. The Kanuvai Check Dam Rejuvenation Association, in collaboration with local community stakeholders, will undertake the continued maintenance and care of the plants.
The initiative highlighted the importance of environmental sustainability, community participation and inclusive development. Beyond enhancing the region’s green cover, the plantation drive created meaningful memories, valuable learning experiences and a strong sense of belonging among all the participants.
