Minister Adhav Arjuna Inspects Semmozhi Park, Sports Projects

Public Works, Highways and Sports Development Minister Adhav Arjuna inspected Semmozhi Park and ongoing indoor sports infrastructure projects at VOC Grounds in Coimbatore to review progress and facilities.

Public Works, Highways and Sports Development Minister Adhav Arjuna on Sunday inspected Semmozhi Park at Gandhipuram and ongoing indoor sports infrastructure projects at the Corporation Sports Complex inside VOC Grounds in Coimbatore.





The Minister reviewed various facilities and development works at the recently established Semmozhi Park, which has been developed at a cost of ₹208.5 crore across 45 acres in Gandhipuram.

The park has emerged as a major recreational destination, attracting large numbers of visitors on weekdays as well as weekends. Designed to promote learning, recreation, health and environmental awareness, the park features a wide range of themed gardens and green spaces integrated with nature.

Among its attractions are a waterfall entrance, Semmozhi Forest, Fragrance Garden, Five Landscape Garden, Wellness Garden, Flower Garden, Puzzle Garden, Shade Garden, Bamboo Garden, Herbal Garden, Water Garden, Rock Garden, Star Garden and a rose garden featuring more than 1,000 varieties of roses spread across 38.69 acres.





The park also showcases statues of the seven celebrated philanthropists of Tamil literature — Pegan, Pari, Kari, Ay Andiran, Athiyan, Nalli and Ori. Facilities include an Archaeological Museum, Botanical Museum, reading spaces, an open-air theatre with a seating capacity of 500, outdoor and indoor fitness centres, interactive learning spaces, a nursery, children’s play area, AI and VR gaming zone, a dedicated play area for persons with disabilities, improved walkways, stone seating areas and decorative lighting.

Additional amenities such as eco-friendly walking tracks, automated drinking water facilities, wheelchairs for senior citizens and persons with disabilities, electric vehicles, food courts, staff accommodation, parking facilities and rainwater harvesting systems have also been incorporated.





During the inspection, the Minister interacted with officials and reviewed the functioning of the park, visitor turnout and maintenance activities.

Earlier, Adhav Arjuna also inspected the construction of an international-standard swimming pool being developed under the Namakku Naame Scheme at VOC Grounds at a cost of ₹4.34 crore.

He further reviewed another swimming pool project being developed at the same location at a cost of ₹3.44 crore, including ₹2.32 crore from general funds and ₹1.12 crore from Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament funds.

The Minister also interacted with sanitation workers at the venue and enquired about their grievances and working conditions.
