Summer Special Train Service Launched Between Mangaluru and Chennai via Podanur Route

Indian Railways has announced a summer special train service connecting Mangaluru Central in Karnataka to Chennai Egmore via Podanur route. The service will operate on Mondays and Tuesdays from May 4 to June 9, 2025, covering major stations in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.


Coimbatore: In anticipation of the summer season, the Salem Railway Division has announced the operation of a special train service connecting Mangaluru Central in Karnataka to Chennai Egmore via the Podanur route.

According to a press release issued by the Salem Railway Division administration, Train No. 06126, the Mangaluru-Chennai Summer Special, will depart from Mangaluru Central at 4:00 PM every Monday from May 4 to June 8, 2025. The train will reach Chennai Egmore at 10:55 AM the following day, providing convenient overnight connectivity between the two major cities.

In the return direction, Train No. 06125, the Chennai-Mangaluru Summer Special, will depart from Chennai Egmore at 2:00 PM every Tuesday from May 5 to June 9, 2025. This service will arrive at Mangaluru Central at 7:00 AM the next morning, completing the round-trip schedule.

The special train will make scheduled stops at several important stations along the route, ensuring connectivity to multiple regions. Key halts include Kasaragod, Payyanur, Kannur, Thalassery, Vadakara, Kozhikode, Tirur, Shoranur, Palakkad, Podanur, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Jolarpettai, Katpadi, Arakkonam, Tiruvallur, and Perambur.

This summer special service is expected to benefit tourists, families traveling during the vacation season, and regular commuters between Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. The decision to route the train through Podanur provides enhanced connectivity to the Coimbatore region and surrounding areas, making it convenient for passengers from Western Tamil Nadu to access this inter-state service.

Railway officials have advised passengers to book their tickets in advance through the IRCTC website or authorized booking counters, as demand for summer special trains typically remains high during the peak travel season.
