The Road Safety Committee has worked out a schedule for carrying out inspections on the fitness of school vehicles which come under the revenue divisional offices of Tondiarpet and Egmore.

The vehicles are to be tested under the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicles (Regulation and Control of School Buses) Special Rules 2012.

The inspection, to be carried out in five phases, would cover vehicles registered with the nine Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) of the north east, east, south-west, west, north-west, north, south-east, east and central.

The vehicle check team would consist of officials of the transport department, city police, school education department and Tondiarpet and Egmore revenue divisions.

A total of 571 school vehicles will be inspected. The tests will be held from May 16-22.

The decision to carry out the vehicle checks was made at a meeting convened by the Collector V. Anbuselvan on May 10, said a press release issued by the Chennai Collectorate.
