1,324 Voters Cast Postal Ballots on First Day in Coimbatore District

Postal voting began in Coimbatore district for senior citizens above 85 years and persons with disabilities. Special teams visited homes to collect ballots. On the first day, 1,324 voters across various assembly constituencies exercised their franchise ahead of April 23 polling.


Coimbatore: Postal voting for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections commenced on April 12 in Coimbatore district, with 1,324 voters casting their ballots on the first day. The postal ballot facility has been extended to senior citizens above 85 years of age and persons with disabilities across various assembly constituencies in the district.

Election officials stated that special teams appointed for this purpose visited the homes of eligible voters to collect their postal ballots. The main polling for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections is scheduled to take place on April 23.

In Thondamuthur constituency, out of 1,180 voters granted permission for postal voting, a total of 395 people exercised their franchise on the first day. This included 337 senior citizens above 85 years and 58 persons with disabilities.

Pollachi constituency witnessed participation from 450 voters out of 945 eligible postal voters. Among them, 348 were senior citizens and 102 were persons with disabilities who cast their votes.

In Valparai (Reserved) constituency, 262 voters out of the total 694 postal voters participated on the first day. The breakup included 175 senior citizens and 87 persons with disabilities.

Coimbatore South constituency recorded 217 voters exercising their postal ballot rights on the opening day. Out of 646 eligible voters in this constituency, 186 were senior citizens above 85 years and 31 were persons with disabilities.

The postal voting process will continue in the coming days to ensure all eligible senior citizens and persons with disabilities can cast their votes from the comfort of their homes before the main polling day.
