A leopard entered a residential area in Linkapuram village near Sirumugai, hunting a goat, causing panic among residents. Villagers demand immediate capture of the leopard.

Coimbatore: Residents of Linkapuram village near Sirumugai in Coimbatore district are living in fear after a leopard entered a residential area and hunted a goat.

Linkapuram village, located near the forest area, has over 500 residences with more than 1,000 inhabitants. In this village, a resident named Udayakumar has set up a shed within his house compound to raise livestock including goats and cattle.

Last night, a leopard from the nearby forest area entered Udayakumar's compound while he and his wife were sitting outside their house. The leopard attacked and carried away one of their goats right before their eyes. Shocked by the incident, Udayakumar immediately ran to the forest department checkpost. Finding no one there, he later alerted forest officials via phone.

When forest department officials inspected the area, they found leopard paw prints and drag marks where the leopard had pulled its prey. Following this, the forest department has stated that they will take measures to capture the leopard.

This incident has caused alarm in the area, as no such incidents have occurred in this village for the past 40 years. The leopard's entry into a residential area in the middle of the village and its successful hunt has instilled fear among the residents.

A government primary school is functioning just 500 meters away from the house where the incident occurred. Villagers have demanded immediate action to trap the leopard, which has become a threat to both the public and livestock.
