Coimbatore: Two individuals, including the manager of a private lodge, have been arrested for allegedly running an online prostitution racket near Annur in Coimbatore district.
The arrests were made at a private lodge named 'Wonder Paradise' operating in the Keeranathaam area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Kovilpalayam police station. The lodge manager, Saroj Kumar, and an employee named Varghese were apprehended for allegedly facilitating prostitution through online bookings.
The racket came to light when a customer from out of town, who had booked a room through the OYO app, was allegedly offered to arrange women for prostitution through online bookings by the manager and the employee. Shocked by this, the customer filed a complaint at the Kovilpalayam police station.
Based on the complaint, the police conducted an investigation and confirmed the illegal activities. Subsequently, both Saroj Kumar and Varghese were arrested. The accused were produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
The police are also planning to seal the lodge with the help of revenue department officials. This incident has raised concerns about the prevalence of prostitution in areas like Saravanampatti and Keeranathaam, which have a high concentration of IT companies and colleges.
In light of these allegations, the police are conducting further investigations into potential prostitution activities in the surrounding areas.
