Coimbatore MP Dr. Ganpathy P. Rajkumar initiated the 'Pollution-Free Ayudha Puja' campaign in the Central Zone of Coimbatore on October 10, 2024. The event, held at Bharathi Park, aimed to promote eco-friendly practices during the festival.
Coimbatore: In a significant move towards environmental conservation during festive celebrations, Coimbatore Member of Parliament Dr. Ganpathy P. Rajkumar launched the 'Pollution-Free Ayudha Puja' initiative on October 10, 2024. The event took place at Bharathi Park in Ward 69 of the Coimbatore Corporation's Central Zone.
The initiative, jointly organized by the Coimbatore Corporation, the Indian All Garments Welfare Association, and the Santhammal Sundaram Foundation, aims to collect and properly dispose of plastic items, cardboard boxes, electronic waste, and thermocol from Ward 81 during the Ayudha Puja cleaning activities.
Mayor Ka. Ranganayaki Ramachandran and Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran IAS were present at the launch. MP Rajkumar officially inaugurated the program and distributed yellow bags to the public, encouraging the use of eco-friendly alternatives during the festival.
The event was attended by several notable officials including Deputy Mayor R. Vetri Selvan, Deputy Commissioner K. Sivakumar, Public Health Committee Chairman P. Mariselvan, City Health Officer Dr. K. Boopathi, Assistant Commissioner Senthil Kumaran, and Ward Councilor Saravana Kumar. Health Inspectors Dhanapalan and Saravana Kumar, along with numerous volunteers, also participated in the program.
This initiative underscores the local administration's commitment to promoting environmentally responsible practices during traditional festivals, setting an example for sustainable celebrations in Coimbatore.
