‘Include milk in noon meal scheme to get our votes’

The Tamil Nadu Milk Producers Welfare Association has decided to support any political party that will promise to include milk in the noon meal scheme.

The association president, K.A. Sengottuvel, told reporters here that there were 80 lakh children covered under the noon meal scheme in the State.

They should be provided 150 ml of milk or milk powder everyday. This would help improve the standards of living of the farmers too.

He added that 1.88 crore litres of milk were being produced in the State everyday. The increase in procurement price in November 1, 2015 helped the State achieve surplus in milk production.

Their other demands included increase in procurement price of milk in part with an increase in cost of raw materials for producing milk and also in part with increase in dearness allowance of government employees.

This will ensure milk producers get reasonable money for their produce. He said that only members, who supply milk to the societies for 180 days, be eligible for casting votes in society elections. The association also demanded waiving of all farm loans.
