Petition Filed to Revoke Building Permission for Nehru International School

Thirumalayampalayam Panchayat member Ramesh Kumar has filed a petition with the District Collector seeking revocation of building permission granted to Nehru International School, citing rule violations and non-payment of taxes.

Coimbatore: Ramesh Kumar, the 2nd ward member of Thirumalayampalayam Panchayat, has submitted a petition to the Coimbatore District Collector's office, demanding the cancellation of the building permission granted to Nehru International School by the Coimbatore Local Planning Authority.

In his petition, Ramesh Kumar stated that the Nehru College of Education & Charitable Trust, which operates Nehru Arts & Science College and Nehru Institute of Engineering & Technology in the Thirumalayampalayam Panchayat area, has outstanding property tax dues exceeding Rs. 3 crores for these private self-financing colleges.

The same educational group has been running Nehru International School in Thirumalayampalayam Panchayat since 2016-17. They initially obtained permission to construct a ground floor, first floor, and second floor for the school building. However, they have violated regulations by constructing additional buildings and have been operating the self-financing school for the past seven years.

Despite not being assessed for property tax and not paying any taxes for seven years, the school has recently received online approval from the Coimbatore Local Planning Authority to construct third and fourth floors. Ramesh Kumar argues that this approval results in significant revenue loss for the government and constitutes a violation of rules.

The petitioner has requested the District Collector to take immediate action to inspect the private self-financing school that has violated building regulations. He has urged the authorities to subject the school to tax assessment and revoke the online approval granted by the Coimbatore Local Planning Authority for constructing the third and fourth floors until the school pays the appropriate property tax for the past seven years.
