International Day of Awareness on Food Loss and Waste Observed at TNAU, Coimbatore

Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in Coimbatore observed the International Day of Awareness on Food Loss and Waste on September 29, 2024, featuring various events to raise awareness among students and faculty.


Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) in Coimbatore observed the International Day of Awareness on Food Loss and Waste on September 29, 2024. The event was organized by the Food Forum established under the Department of Food Process Engineering at the College of Agricultural Engineering and Research Institute.

This year's theme, "Climate Finance for Reducing Food Loss and Waste," highlighted the urgent need for investment to address pressing challenges such as ensuring food security and predicting climate change. As part of the awareness program, various activities were conducted, including an awareness rally, quiz competition, poster presentation, and meme creation.



The awareness rally was flagged off by Vice-Chancellor Dr. V. Geethalakshmi, along with Dr. A. Raviraj, Dean (Agricultural Engineering), Dr. N. Maragatham, Dean (Student Welfare), and Dr. M. Balakrishnan, Professor and Head of the Department. The Head of the Food Processing Department emphasized the importance of preventing food loss and waste for food security and environmental sustainability.

Approximately 600 participants, including students and faculty members, took part in the awareness rally, raising slogans to promote the cause. The central theme of the rally was to create awareness among the public about preventing food loss and waste.



The event served as a platform to educate and engage the university community on the critical issues of food waste and loss, aligning with global efforts to address these challenges and their impact on climate change.
