Pensioners' Associations Stage Protest Demanding Various Benefits in Coimbatore

On International Day of Older Persons and Pensioners' Protection Day, various pensioners' associations staged a protest near the BSNL Employees Union office in Coimbatore, demanding multiple benefits and the reinstatement of the old pension scheme.


Coimbatore: On the occasion of International Day of Older Persons and Pensioners' Protection Day, a coordinated group of central, state government, and public sector pensioners' associations staged a protest near the BSNL Employees Union (BSNLEU) office in Coimbatore. The demonstration aimed to highlight various demands concerning pensioners' welfare and rights.

The protesters emphasized several key demands, including ensuring a dignified life for all pensioners and senior citizens, reintroduction of the old pension scheme, and abandonment of the NPS/UPS (New Pension Scheme/Universal Pension System) scheme.



Hundreds of members from various pensioners' associations participated in the protest, including representatives from the BSNL Employees Union (BSNLEU) and the All India Postal and RMS Pensioners Association (AIPRPA). The demonstrators raised slogans urging the fulfillment of their demands during the protest.



The protest highlighted the ongoing concerns of pensioners across different sectors, reflecting the need for comprehensive pension reforms and improved welfare measures for senior citizens. As the demonstration unfolded, it drew attention to the challenges faced by retired government and public sector employees in securing their financial future and maintaining a decent standard of living post-retirement.
