AIADMK MLA PRG Arunkumar, along with hundreds of residents, submitted a petition to the Coimbatore District Collector demanding action against Vellanaipatti Panchayat President Kavitha for alleged irregularities and caste-based discrimination.

Coimbatore: AIADMK MLA PRG Arunkumar, accompanied by hundreds of residents, submitted a petition to the Coimbatore District Collector on Monday, demanding action against Vellanaipatti Panchayat President Kavitha for alleged irregularities and caste-based discrimination.

The Vellanaipatti Panchayat in S.S. Kulam Union of Coimbatore district was previously under the administration of a special officer following complaints of irregularities against the panchayat president, Kavitha. However, on the 20th of this month, during the distribution of water connections in the area, Kavitha allegedly engaged in misconduct again with the help of her supporters.

Four ward members of the panchayat - Sumathi Vadivelu, Sakunthala Devi, Rajeswari, and Selvi - approached the District Collector in the presence of Kavundampalayam MLA PRG Arunkumar. They accused Kavitha of using caste slurs to demean them and filing false complaints against them. The ward members urged the authorities to conduct an investigation and take appropriate action against Kavitha.

Speaking about the incident, MLA PRG Arunkumar stated that he came to provide an explanation about what had transpired. He mentioned that the District Collector has assured them of taking action on this matter.

The gathering of hundreds of residents at the District Collector's office to submit the petition caused a brief commotion at the premises.
