Coimbatore Doctors Successfully Remove Airgun Pellet from Worker's Thigh

Coimbatore government doctors successfully removed an airgun pellet lodged in a construction worker's thigh. The complex surgery saved the patient's life and limb after he was shot during a drunken altercation in Erode.

Coimbatore: In a remarkable medical intervention, doctors at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital successfully removed an airgun pellet from the thigh of a construction worker, saving both his life and limb.

Senthil Kumar, 45, a construction worker from Ammapettai area in Erode district, was shot in his right thigh with an airgun during a drunken altercation. Initially admitted to Erode Government Hospital, he was later transferred to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital due to uncontrollable bleeding.

A CT scan revealed that the airgun pellet had penetrated a blood vessel and was lodged deep in the thigh, close to the bone. The location of the pellet, adhering to a major blood vessel in the leg, made the removal procedure extremely challenging.

After stabilizing the patient's condition, a team of vascular surgeons led by Dr. P. Vadivu and Dr. P. Deepan Kumar performed the intricate surgery. They successfully repaired the damaged blood vessel and removed the deeply embedded airgun pellet from the thigh.

The successful operation not only saved Senthil Kumar's life but also preserved his leg function. He is now fully recovered and ready to be discharged from the hospital.

On September 20, Professor Dr. A. Nirmala, the Chief Minister, and Professor Dr. Kannadasan, the Medical Superintendent, commended the team of vascular surgeons, including Dr. P. Vadivu and Dr. P. Deepan Kumar, for their life-saving efforts.
