Coimbatore: The body of Karthik Raja, who was declared brain-dead following a road accident in Udumalaipettai, received government honors today after his organs were donated.

Karthik Raja, 27, hailed from Kadathur in Madathukulam Taluk of Tiruppur district. He was employed at a garment company. On September 15, Karthik met with an accident while riding a two-wheeler in the Udumalaipettai area. He was admitted to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Despite medical efforts, Karthik was declared brain-dead. Following this, six of his organs, including kidneys, heart, and eyes, were harvested for donation. On September 17, a ceremony was held at the Coimbatore Government Hospital premises where chief medical officers and doctors paid their respects to Karthik's body on behalf of the government.

The selfless act of organ donation by Karthik's family will potentially save and improve the lives of several individuals. After the ceremony, Karthik's body was handed over to his parents for the last rites.

The incident highlights the importance of organ donation and the recognition given by the government to such noble gestures. It serves as a reminder of how tragedy can be turned into hope for others in need of life-saving transplants.
