GKNM Hospital to Host 'Run for Little Hearts Marathon' on World Heart Day

GKNM Hospital, Coimbatore, organizes 'Run for Little Hearts' marathon on September 29th, World Heart Day, to support children with heart defects and childhood cancers. The event offers multiple race categories and cash prizes.


Coimbatore: G. Kuppuswamy Naidu Memorial Hospital (GKNM) in Coimbatore is set to host the second edition of 'Run for Little Hearts' marathon on September 29th, coinciding with World Heart Day. The event aims to raise awareness and funds for children with heart defects and childhood cancers.

The marathon, scheduled to start at 5:30 a.m. at Mani Higher Secondary School, Papanaickenpalayam, Coimbatore, offers various race categories to accommodate participants of all ages. The event includes 1 km and 3 km runs open to all age groups, allowing children and families to participate together. A 5 km run is available for participants aged 12 to 18 (boys and girls) and above 18 (men and women). The most challenging 10 km category is open to men and women above 18 years of age.

Winners in the 5 km and 10 km categories stand a chance to win cash prizes totaling Rs. 75,000. The Coimbatore District Athletic Association has recognized and approved the marathon, adding to its credibility. LMW, Lakshmi Mills Co. Ltd, and Lakshmi Card Clothing have extended their support to the event.

On September 16, 2024, GKNM Hospital hosted an unveiling ceremony for the marathon T-shirt and medal at its premises. During the event, Dr. Ragupathy Veluswamy, Chief Executive Officer of GKNMH, reflected on the success of the previous year's marathon. He stated that the 2023 edition saw active participation from 2,000 runners, and the funds collected benefited 29 children with heart defects and childhood cancer.

Dr. Veluswamy emphasized GKNM Hospital's pioneering role in pediatric cardiac care and pediatric oncology in Coimbatore. He highlighted that the hospital's Pediatric Cardiac and Oncology unit is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and advanced technologies to provide comprehensive care for young patients.
