Tirupur: A tragic accident near Udumalpet in Tirupur district claimed three lives when a speeding car from Kerala collided with a motorcycle and bystanders. The incident, which occurred near Palappampatti, led to a public protest and traffic disruption on the Coimbatore-Dindigul National Highway.

Mohanraj (52) from Palappampatti and his friend Rajagopal (50) from Pudukkottai were traveling on a motorcycle towards Udumalpet when a car from Kerala, heading to Palani, unexpectedly crashed into their vehicle.

The car then hit two bystanders waiting for a bus nearby - Sadasivam (75) from Udumalpet V.G. Rao Nagar and Rangasamy (68) from Madukkarai, Coimbatore - before overturning into a ditch.

Rajagopal, who was riding pillion, died on the spot.

The other three victims were rushed to Udumalpet Government Hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, Mohanraj and Rangasamy succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. Sadasivam is currently undergoing treatment as an inpatient. Three people in the car, including a child, escaped with minor injuries.

The Udumalpet police have registered a case and are investigating the incident. The tragic loss of three lives in this sudden accident has cast a pall of sorrow over the Udumalpet area.

Following the accident, residents of Palappampatti staged a protest on the Udumalpet-Palani road, alleging that the absence of proper speed breaker signage was the cause of the accident.

Police Inspectors Gopalakrishnan and Balamurugan, along with Tahsildar Sundaram, held talks with the protesters to address their concerns.

The protest resulted in severe traffic congestion on the Udumalpet-Palani road, causing inconvenience to motorists. The Coimbatore-Dindigul National Highway also experienced traffic disruptions due to the incident and subsequent protest.
