Blood-Contaminated Water Leakage Around Autopsy Complex at Coimbatore Government Hospital Sparks Public Concern

Blood-contaminated water leakage around the autopsy complex at Coimbatore Government Hospital has raised public health concerns. The incident, occurring over the past few days, has prompted calls for immediate action from local residents.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, a major government healthcare facility serving the western region of Tamil Nadu, is facing a serious health hazard. Blood-contaminated water has been leaking from the autopsy complex, causing concern among thousands of daily visitors and patients.

The hospital, which caters to patients from Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tirupur, Erode, and Salem districts, has been grappling with this issue for the past few days. The leakage is occurring in a high-traffic area, emitting a foul odor and creating unsanitary conditions that have affected the public.

When questioned about the issue, hospital authorities stated, "On average, about 20 autopsies are conducted daily at the Coimbatore Government Hospital's autopsy department. The water comes from cleaning the autopsy tables after the day's work is completed in the evening."

As a precautionary measure, disinfectants were sprayed in the hospital premises. However, the severity of the contamination was evident as the white bleaching powder turned blood-red due to the wastewater. Residents have reported that this is not an isolated incident, with similar wastewater leakage and sanitation issues present in other areas of the hospital complex as well.

Addressing the issue, Dr. Nirmala, Dean of Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, said, "We have informed the Public Works Department officials about this problem. Action will be taken soon to rectify the issue."

As of September 8, the public has demanded a swift resolution to this pressing health concern. The situation highlights the urgent need for improved infrastructure and waste management systems in healthcare facilities to maintain public health standards and patient safety.
