Coimbatore: The Hindu Munnani organization celebrated its 32nd annual Sri Vinayagar Chaturthi festival in Urumandampalayam, Coimbatore, with great fervor and traditional rituals. The festivities began with a Ganapati Homam, setting the spiritual tone for the event.
A grand procession was organized, featuring an beautifully decorated chariot carrying Lord Vinayagar from the Mahakaliyamman Temple in G.N. Mills to the Mahakaliyamman Temple in Urumandampalayam. The procession was accompanied by the rhythmic beats of Kerala's Chendai Melam and the traditional Singari Melam, creating a vibrant atmosphere as devotees played the Jamat.
As evening approached, a special lamp worship ceremony took place at 7 PM, with 251 female devotees participating in matching attire. The ritual involved the use of various traditional items including oil lamps, turmeric, kumkum, turmeric threads, rice, bangles, fruits, betel leaves, areca nuts, and loose flowers.
The ceremony commenced with the lighting of lamps and the offering of these sacred items. The devotees then chanted 108 songs in praise of Amman, creating a spiritually charged atmosphere. The lamp worship concluded with great enthusiasm and devotion.
Following the ceremonies, all attendees were served a communal meal, embodying the spirit of community and sharing that is central to the festival. The event not only celebrated the religious significance of Vinayagar Chaturthi but also strengthened community bonds in Urumandampalayam.
