Kovai Kutralam Reopens: Crowds Throng Popular Tourist Spot

Kovai Kutralam, Coimbatore's main tourist attraction, reopened after a two-month closure due to heavy rains. Visitors flocked to the waterfall on Sunday, September 8, coinciding with Vinayagar Chaturthi celebrations.

Coimbatore: Kovai Kutralam, the primary tourist attraction in Coimbatore district, witnessed a surge of visitors on Sunday, September 8. The popular waterfall, situated at the foothills of the Western Ghats, reopened after a two-month closure, much to the delight of locals and tourists alike.

The Forest Department had closed Kovai Kutralam on June 26 due to heavy rains and flooding. After a careful assessment of water flow and safety conditions, authorities decided to reopen the site, coinciding with the Vinayagar Chaturthi festival and the weekend.

Visitors from Coimbatore and neighboring districts, as well as from other states, thronged the waterfall to enjoy its refreshing waters and scenic surroundings. Families with children and adults alike were seen reveling in the gushing waters, taking advantage of the holiday and pleasant weather.

Kovai Kutralam is known for its eco-tourism appeal, attracting nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers throughout the year. The Forest Department occasionally imposes restrictions during periods of heavy water flow to ensure visitor safety.

The reopening of Kovai Kutralam is expected to boost local tourism and provide a much-needed recreational outlet for residents and visitors in the region. Authorities have urged visitors to adhere to safety guidelines and respect the natural environment while enjoying the waterfall and its surroundings.
