Chidambaram's 153rd birth anniversary on September 5, 2024, members of the DMK party paid their respects to the oil press and portrait of the freedom fighter at the Coimbatore Central Prison. V.O. Chidambaram, affectionately known as 'Kappalottiya Tamizhan' (The Tamil Helmsman) and 'Sekkizhutha Semmal' (The Oil Press Hero) by Tamils, was honored for his significant contributions to India's independence movement.
