Former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam visited the Velliangiri Andavar Temple on August 31, during Shani Pradosham. He donated a cow and calf, seeking blessings for his party's success and strength.

Coimbatore: Former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam visited the Velliangiri Andavar Temple in Coimbatore on Thursday, August 31, coinciding with Shani Pradosham. The visit was marked by his donation of a cow and calf to the temple, a gesture known as 'Go Dhanam' in Hindu tradition.

The Velliangiri Andavar Temple, located on the sixth hill of Velliangiri, holds significant mythological importance. According to Hindu puranas, it is believed to be the site where Arjuna, one of the Pandava brothers from the Mahabharata, performed penance to Lord Shiva. The legend states that Krishna advised Arjuna to seek Lord Shiva's blessings to obtain the Pashupatastra, a powerful weapon, to defeat the Kauravas in the great war.

Panneerselvam's visit to this revered site is seen as a spiritual endeavor seeking divine blessings for the strengthening and success of his political party. The former Chief Minister participated in the Shani Pradosham rituals, a special observance dedicated to Lord Shiva and planet Saturn, believed to be particularly auspicious.

The practice of donating cows to temples, known as 'Go Dhanam', is considered a virtuous act in Hinduism, believed to bring blessings and good fortune. Panneerselvam's adherence to this tradition at such a historically and mythologically significant temple has drawn attention from both religious and political circles.

The visit comes at a time when political dynamics in Tamil Nadu are evolving, and Panneerselvam's gesture is being viewed by many as a move to seek divine intervention for his political future. The former Chief Minister's devotion and the symbolic act of cow donation have become talking points among his supporters and political observers alike.
