Coimbatore: Former BJP National Secretary H. Raja addressed reporters at Coimbatore Airport, outlining the party's ambitious plans for Tamil Nadu and responding to various political allegations.
Raja expressed gratitude to the All India Committee for appointing him as the head of the coordination committee in Tamil Nadu while State President Annamalai is abroad for educational purposes. He announced a three-month membership drive with a target of recruiting 200 members per booth, aiming for a total of one crore members in Tamil Nadu. "This is a crucial period for the BJP to gain the support of Tamil Nadu's people for the 2026 elections," Raja stated.
Addressing electoral concerns, Raja mentioned discrepancies in voter lists in constituencies like Coimbatore, Mayiladuthurai, and South Chennai. He emphasized the importance of door-to-door campaigns to ensure eligible voters are registered and can exercise their voting rights.
Responding to accusations that the central government doesn't provide adequate funds to Tamil Nadu, Raja dismissed these claims as excuses. He highlighted the numerous projects and funds allocated by the central government over the past decade, asserting that the Modi government treats all states equally.
Raja elaborated on the central government's investments in national highways, railways, judiciary, and communication networks. He stressed that these projects also create employment opportunities for local residents. "The central government is spending significantly for the progress of all states," he added.
Regarding youth employment, Raja stated that the BJP in Tamil Nadu is part of the larger All India BJP effort. He mentioned a 3 lakh crore rupee allocation for women and youth, emphasizing the need for these schemes to reach the people effectively.
Clarifying his stance on actor Vijay, Raja denied criticizing him personally. "I didn't criticize Vijay, but only challenged the false information presented in his movie 'Mersal'," he explained. Raja concluded by welcoming Vijay's announcement to start a political party.
