Palakkad Division Modernizes Ticketing with QR Code Payments and ATVMs

Palakkad Division of Southern Railway introduces QR code-based payments and Automatic Ticket Vending Machines across 85 stations, enhancing passenger convenience and streamlining the ticketing process.

The Palakkad Division of Southern Railway has rolled out innovative measures to enhance passenger convenience and modernize the ticketing process across its 85 railway stations. These initiatives include the implementation of a Quick Response (QR) code-based payment system and the installation of Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs).

The QR code-based payment system has been introduced at all 85 railway stations within the division, allowing passengers to purchase railway tickets using the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) mode directly at Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) counters. A total of 104 machines have been deployed across the division to facilitate this user-friendly system, which aims to streamline the ticket purchasing process by reducing dependency on physical cash transactions.

Passengers can now buy general-class tickets, reserved tickets, unreserved journey tickets, and platform tickets more efficiently using this digital payment method. The system is designed to ensure a smoother travel experience by reducing queues and transaction times at ticket counters.

In addition to the QR code system, the Palakkad Division has equipped 25 stations with 63 Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs). These standalone, touch screen-based booths allow passengers to purchase tickets without the need for smartcards or cash. The introduction of ATVMs provides a convenient and efficient alternative for ticket purchasing, catering to the needs of tech-savvy passengers and further reducing queues at traditional ticket counters.

Divisional Railway Manager of Palakkad, Arun Kumar Chaturvedi, stated that the deployment of these advanced technologies aligns with the division's commitment to modernizing its services and improving the overall passenger experience. By embracing digital solutions and offering multiple ticketing options, the Palakkad Division is taking significant strides towards providing a more flexible and hassle-free travel environment for its passengers.

The new systems are currently operational and have received positive feedback from passengers, who appreciate the convenience and speed of the new ticketing methods. As the Palakkad Division continues to innovate, passengers can look forward to even more improvements in the near future, further enhancing their railway travel experience.
