Coimbatore: In a disturbing incident, a 62-year-old man was arrested under the POCSO Act for sexually harassing two young girls in Perianaickenpalayam, Coimbatore. The accused, identified as Sundaramoorthy, was taken into custody after the parents of the victims filed a complaint with the All Women Police Station.

The incident came to light when two girls, aged 10 and 11, who usually played near their homes during school holidays, suddenly refused to go out. Concerned by this change in behavior, the parents questioned the girls, who then revealed that Sundaramoorthy, their neighbor, had been sexually harassing them when they went out to play.

Shocked by this revelation, the parents immediately confronted Sundaramoorthy's son. Following this, Sundaramoorthy's family vacated their house and moved to another area. However, Sundaramoorthy returned to the same locality yesterday, allegedly with malicious intent.

Upon spotting him, the girls informed their parents, who promptly alerted the Perianaickenpalayam All Women Police Station. Inspector Indrani Sophia and her team rushed to the scene and apprehended Sundaramoorthy, who was found loitering in the street where the girls resided.

During the interrogation at the police station, it was revealed that Sundaramoorthy had indeed behaved inappropriately with the girls and had returned to the area with ill intentions. Based on these findings, the police registered a case against Sundaramoorthy under three sections, including the POCSO Act.

The accused was subsequently produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody. This incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the need for increased vigilance and child safety measures.
