Fake Police Officer Arrested in Coimbatore for Job Scam and Possession of Illegal Police Equipment

A man posing as a police officer was arrested in Coimbatore for running a job scam and possessing illegal police equipment. The incident unfolded in Macchegoundan Palayam near Eachanari, leading to the discovery of fake police ID cards and weapons.

Coimbatore: In a startling incident, a man impersonating a police officer has been arrested in Coimbatore for orchestrating a job scam and possessing illegal police equipment. The case, which was initially under investigation in Mettupalayam, took a new turn when Coimbatore police apprehended the suspect, seizing fake police ID cards, guns, and lathis.

The series of events began three months ago when a man named Veerapathiran rented a house in Macchegoundan Palayam near Eachanari, Coimbatore district. He provided a copy of his Aadhaar card and a police ID card of his brother, Vinu, to the house owner, Dinesh.

A few days ago, Dinesh encountered Vinu at a local temple. When asked about his police posting, Vinu claimed to be working in the security detail of a minister. He further offered to secure a government job for Dinesh's relative, Amsaveni, for a sum of 2 lakh rupees, citing his alleged position as an escort for the minister.

On May 3rd, Dinesh visited the rented house and found items scattered outside. Neighbors reported that no one had been to the house for 3-4 days. Upon entering with a spare key, Dinesh discovered a handgun, police batons, a metal detector, and ID cards printed with "Tamil Nadu Police" inside the house.

Alarmed by the discovery, Dinesh immediately handed over all the items to the Madukkarai Police Station. During the investigation, it came to light that Vinu was already under scrutiny in Mettupalayam for a similar job scam.

The police have now arrested Vinu (34) and are conducting further investigations. Meanwhile, they are still searching for Veerapathiran, who remains at large. The case has raised serious concerns about the misuse of police identities and the ongoing job scams in the region.
