Sudden Flash Flood at Aliyar Kavi Aruvi Near Pollachi: Temporary Ban on Tourist Entry

A sudden flash flood at Aliyar Kavi Aruvi near Pollachi has prompted authorities to impose a temporary ban on tourist entry. The decision comes after heavy rains in the Western Ghats caused water levels to rise rapidly.

Coimbatore: The Forest Department has imposed a temporary ban on tourists visiting the Aliyar Kavi Aruvi (waterfall) near Pollachi following a sudden flash flood. This decision comes in the wake of heavy rains that have been lashing Pollachi and surrounding areas for the past two days, particularly during the evenings.

The Western Ghats region has experienced significant rainfall, causing water levels to rise dramatically in areas including Aliyar and the Anamalai Tiger Reserve. As a result, the Kavi Aruvi has witnessed a sudden surge in water flow, prompting authorities to take precautionary measures.

The Kavi Aruvi, which had been closed due to continuous rains, was reopened to tourists for bathing on August 15th after the water flow normalized. However, the recent heavy rains on the previous evening caused a sudden flash flood, forcing the closure of the waterfall once again.

Forest Department officials have stated that the ban on tourists bathing in the waterfall will remain in effect until the water flow stabilizes. This temporary measure is aimed at ensuring the safety of visitors to the popular tourist spot.

The authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will reassess the conditions before lifting the ban. Tourists planning to visit the Aliyar Kavi Aruvi are advised to stay updated on the latest announcements from the Forest Department regarding the reopening of the site.
