Coimbatore Airport Expansion: Revenue Department to Acquire Remaining Land Through Court

Officials stated that 4 acres of private land and approximately 10 acres of 'no cost lands' in the form of roads are yet to be acquired. As the government is not required to pay compensation for 'no cost land', payment under Section 7 (3) will be made before the court only for the 4 acres of private land. The acquisition is expected to be completed by August-end.

Coimbatore: The Revenue Department has decided to acquire the remaining parcel of land for the expansion of the Coimbatore International Airport runway through court proceedings, as the acquisition process has been prolonged.

Official sources revealed that only four acres of land are pending acquisition. Due to various delays, the Revenue Department has opted to acquire this land under Section 7 (3) of the Tamil Nadu Acquisition of Land for Industrial Purpose Act. The department plans to pay compensation for the four acres before the respective court under this section, with the procedure expected to be completed by the end of August.

The State government had previously accorded administrative sanction for the acquisition of 635.33 acres. This includes 468.83 acres of patta lands, 28.37 acres of poramboke lands, 134.32 acres of Defence lands, and 3.30 acres of other government department lands across Singanallur, Uppilipalayam, Kalapatti, Neelambur, and Irugur villages.

Out of the 468.83 acres of patta lands, officials stated that four acres of private land and approximately 10 acres of 'no cost lands' in the form of roads are yet to be acquired. As the government is not required to pay compensation for 'no cost land', payment under Section 7 (3) will be made before the court only for the four acres of private land.

The remaining patta lands were acquired under section 7(2) of the Act. Compensation was fixed at ₹1,500 per sq.ft for residential areas and ₹900 per sq.ft for agricultural plots.
