Government-Aided College Teachers Stage Protest for Career Advancement and Other Demands in Pollachi

Government-aided college teachers in Pollachi staged a three-day protest from August 7-9, demanding career advancement, salary arrears, and other benefits equal to government college teachers.

Coimbatore: The Joint Action Committee of Aided College Teachers (JAC - ACT) MUTA staged a sit-in protest at NGM College campus in Pollachi on Wednesday, August 7. The demonstration, where participants wore black attire, was part of a statewide protest highlighting various demands of government-aided college teachers.

The three-day protest, scheduled from August 7 to 9, primarily focused on the discriminatory treatment of government-aided college teachers compared to their counterparts in government colleges. The teachers alleged that the Tamil Nadu government has only provided career advancement benefits and salary arrears to government college teachers, neglecting those in aided institutions.

Key demands of the protesting teachers included immediate implementation of career advancement schemes, incentive pay for M.Phil and Ph.D degrees as per UGC norms, and issuance of proceedings by the Director of Collegiate Education for the post of Professor. They also urged for an extension of the deadline for refresher/innovative training programs as announced by UGC, an end to the anti-teacher stance of college management, and the abolition of the new pension scheme in favor of the old pension scheme.

The sit-in protest saw significant participation from college professors, including N. Anbarasu, AUT branch president, S. Sivasankar, secretary, Suja Medhiv, treasurer, S. Muthukumaravel, vice president, and S. Somasundaram, joint secretary, among others.
