Water Hyacinth Removal Operation Underway at Ukkadam Periyakulam, Coimbatore

Ahead of Chief Minister Stalin's visit on August 9, Coimbatore Corporation intensifies efforts to clear water hyacinth from Ukkadam Periyakulam. The operation began on August 6.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation has launched an intensive operation to remove water hyacinth from the Ukkadam Periyakulam. This clean-up drive, which commenced on August 6, comes in anticipation of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's visit to the city on August 9.

The water hyacinth, an invasive aquatic plant, has been a persistent problem in the Ukkadam Periyakulam for several months. The sudden urgency to clear the water body is directly linked to the Chief Minister's impending visit, during which he is scheduled to inaugurate several developmental projects in the city.

Chief Minister Stalin is set to launch the "Tamil Puthalvan" scheme during his visit. As part of this initiative, he will distribute Rs. 1,000 to eligible students at an event to be held at the Coimbatore Government Arts College ground. The scheme, aimed at supporting education, is expected to benefit a large number of students in the region.

The corporation officials are working round the clock to ensure that the Ukkadam Periyakulam, one of the prominent water bodies in the city, presents a clean and well-maintained appearance before the Chief Minister's arrival.

The removal of water hyacinth is not just a cosmetic measure but also an essential step in maintaining the health of the water ecosystem.
