Brain-dead youth's organs donated in Coimbatore

A 22-year-old accident victim's organs were donated after he was declared brain-dead at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on August 4. The donation took place on August 5, benefiting multiple patients.

Coimbatore: In a heartwarming gesture of altruism, the family of a 22-year-old brain-dead youth from Coimbatore consented to donate his organs, potentially saving and improving the lives of several patients.

Sriram, son of Arumugam from the Kalampalaiyam area in Coimbatore, met with a motorcycle accident on August 3. He was immediately rushed to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) with severe injuries. Despite the medical team's best efforts, Sriram was declared brain-dead on August 4.

Following the declaration, Sriram's parents courageously stepped forward to donate their son's organs. The organ donation process was carried out on August 5, under the guidance of the Tamil Nadu Organ Sharing Registry.

The donated organs included kidneys, liver, pancreas, and eyes. The pancreas was sent to a private hospital in Chennai, while the liver was allocated to a private hospital in Coimbatore. One kidney and both eyes were retained by CMCH, and the other kidney was sent to the Salem Government Hospital.

After the organ retrieval, Sriram's body was given full state honors. Dr. A. Nirmala, Dean of Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, along with other officials, paid their respects by placing floral wreaths.

This noble act of organ donation will potentially transform the lives of multiple patients suffering from organ failure, embodying the spirit of giving even in the face of personal tragedy.
