Completion of Gandhipuram flyover, road widening may be delayed

Since, it was reported that the service road work was causing inconvenience to the general public, it has been expedited in some places.

The two major infrastructure projects that are underway in the city are likely to see a slight delay in completion as these are expected to be ready for use only by July or August.

Officials told The Hindu that the first level of the Gandhipuram flyover (from Nanjappa Road to Sathyamangalam Road) would be completed by July-August.

By then, the service lanes on either side of the flyover would also be completed.

Service roads:

Since, it was reported that the service road work was causing inconvenience to the general public, it has been expedited in some places.

Bitumen topping works will continue on the service lane, the officials said.

The police sources added that traffic signals that were removed from Gandhipuram for construction of the first flyover on Dr. Nanjappa Road have once against been erected at the junction, on Monday.

The traffic police said that these signals will start operating by the end of this week after the service road works are completed.

After studying vehicle movement, the timers of the signals will be set, and the signals will be operated electronically.

The police will resort to manual regulation of traffic for the convenience of road users.

On widening of 12 km stretch from Madukkarai to Walayar into a four-lane road, sources say that bitumen topping needs to be completed for nearly 5 km and the bypass road is almost complete.

The entire project (nearly 54 km from Chengapalli to Neelambur and from Madukkarai to Walayar) will be over by July.

The project, which was started in 2010 to six-lane the road from Chengapalli to Neelambur and four-lane the road from Madukkarai to Walayar had slowed down earlier due to paucity of funds and even now, it would be over in another two months if there would be no financial constraint.
