YouTuber Savukku Shankar, previously arrested for derogatory comments against police officials, has been re-arrested in Coimbatore for allegedly making defamatory remarks about Muthuramalinga Thevar while in prison.

Coimbatore: YouTuber Savukku Shankar, who was previously arrested for making derogatory comments against female police personnel and high-ranking police officials, has been re-arrested in Coimbatore for allegedly making defamatory remarks about Muthuramalinga Thevar.

Shankar had been facing multiple cases across Tamil Nadu, including in Coimbatore, for his controversial statements. He was also booked under the Goondas Act, which prevented him from obtaining bail. As a result, he remained in custody due to the numerous cases filed against him.

In a turn of events, Shankar approached the Supreme Court and managed to secure bail in a few cases. Subsequently, he started obtaining bail in various cases across Tamil Nadu. He was being produced in different district courts for the remaining cases.

Just as it was expected that Shankar would soon be released on bail, he was re-arrested for allegedly making defamatory remarks about Muthuramalinga Thevar. On May 15, a lawyer named Muthu from Coimbatore district filed a complaint against Savukku Shankar at the Race Course Police Station.

The police registered a case against Shankar for allegedly making derogatory comments about Muthuramalinga Thevar while in Coimbatore Central Prison. On August 2, the Race Course Police arrested Shankar in Chennai, brought him to Coimbatore, produced him before the court, and remanded him to Coimbatore Central Prison.

Given the multiple cases pending against him in various districts, it remains uncertain when Shankar will be able to secure release. He will need to obtain bail in all the cases filed against him across different districts before he can be set free. Until then, he is likely to remain in custody.
