Farmers Protest in Pollachi Demanding Minimum Support Price for Agricultural Produce

Narayanasamy Naidu Farmers Association staged a protest in Pollachi, demanding the central government set minimum support prices for agricultural produce and allow toddy tapping in Tamil Nadu.

Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Narayanasamy Naidu Farmers Association staged a protest at Thiruvalluvar Thidal in Pollachi, demanding the central government set minimum support prices for agricultural produce and implement various other measures to support farmers.

Led by state president AS Babu, the demonstration raised slogans emphasizing several key demands. The protesters urged the central government to establish and provide minimum support prices for farmers' produce. They also called for both the central and state governments to waive off farmers' bank loans.

Another significant demand was for the Tamil Nadu government to permit toddy tapping in the state. The farmers argued that the lack of minimum support prices for their produce is forcing many to abandon agriculture and seek alternative livelihoods.

The protesters highlighted that farmers are not receiving any concessions and are often forced to mortgage their agricultural land documents to continue farming. They insisted that regardless of whether the loans are from central or state banks, they should be immediately waived off. The association demanded that banks should not ask farmers to repay loan amounts.

The farmers threatened to continue their protests if their demands, especially the permission for toddy tapping in Tamil Nadu, are not met. The demonstration underscored the growing concerns of the agricultural community and their call for immediate government intervention to address their issues.
