Coimbatore: In a heartwarming display of honesty and dedication, sanitation workers of Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation were honored during the Council meeting for recovering a valuable gold chain that was accidentally thrown away with garbage.
Sivagami, a resident of Ward 91 in Kovaipudur, is a widow living in poverty. Last month, she inadvertently discarded her 6-sovereign gold chain worth ₹3 lakh along with household waste. Distressed by this loss, Sivagami informed her friend Saktivel about the incident. Saktivel then reached out to Udayakumar, the councilor of Ward 98 in Kurichi area, seeking help.
Acting swiftly on the information, Councilor Udayakumar contacted Manikandan, the sanitation supervisor of the area where the incident occurred. The sanitation team, including workers Rani and Sathya Savithri, conducted an intensive six-hour search, sifting through tons of garbage unloaded from the collection vehicle. Their efforts paid off when they successfully recovered the missing gold chain.
During today's Coimbatore Corporation Council meeting, the sanitation workers involved in the recovery were publicly acknowledged and praised for their honest and diligent work. Councilor Udayakumar of Ward 98 stated, "To honor the integrity and truthfulness of the sanitation workers, their names were mentioned in the Council meeting, and all Council members expressed their appreciation for their commendable act."
This incident not only highlights the importance of the often-overlooked sanitation workers but also serves as a testament to their dedication and honesty in serving the community.
