Farmers Petition District Collector for Permission to Extract Silt

Farmers from Sirumugai area in Coimbatore have submitted a petition to the District Collector, seeking permission to extract silt. They claim that despite having approval until August 2024, they were unable to extract due to rainfall.

Coimbatore: Farmers from the Sirumugai area in Coimbatore have petitioned the District Collector, requesting permission to extract silt from local water bodies. The farmers claim that although they have approval until August 16, 2024, they have been unable to extract silt due to unfavorable weather conditions.

In their petition, the farmers stated that the Public Works Department had granted permission for silt extraction in 15 villages in the Sirumugai area until August 16, 2024. However, they are now being told not to extract silt. The farmers explained that they couldn't carry out the extraction during the approved period due to heavy rainfall.

"We were unable to extract silt during the previously approved timeframe due to continuous rainfall. Therefore, we request that the permission be extended until August 16, 2024, as originally granted," the farmers urged in their petition to the District Collector.

The farmers hope that their request will be considered favorably, as silt extraction is crucial for maintaining the water bodies and improving agricultural productivity in the region. The District Administration is expected to review the petition and make a decision based on environmental and agricultural considerations.
