A 37-year-old man was arrested in Coimbatore for marrying another woman without divorcing his first wife. The incident came to light when the first wife filed a police complaint.

Coimbatore: In a case of bigamy, a 37-year-old man was arrested by the Kuniyamuthur police for allegedly marrying another woman without the knowledge of his first wife.

The accused, identified as Bathran, a resident of Mahaaliamman Kovil Street in Kulathupalayam, was married to Janaranjani (30) on September 9, 2021. Janaranjani is the daughter of Karuppusamy from N.G.G.O. Colony, Rangammal Colony in Ashokapuram, Thudiyalur. However, the couple had been living separately due to differences of opinion and alleged dowry harassment.

Recently, it came to light that Bathran had married another woman without obtaining consent or divorce from Janaranjani. Upon learning about this second marriage, Janaranjani filed a complaint with the Kuniyamuthur police station.

Inspector Kalaivani registered a case and conducted an investigation into the matter. As a result, Bathran was arrested on July 18. The police have also filed cases under multiple sections, including dowry harassment, against Kanniammal's father Rangasamy and Kaaliammal Ranjitha.

This incident highlights the ongoing issues of illegal second marriages and dowry-related problems in the region. The authorities are taking strict action against such offenses to uphold the law and protect women's rights.
