Tamil Nadu plans to purchase 500 electric buses, beginning with 100 for Chennai. The remaining 400 will serve major cities like Coimbatore, Madurai, and Trichy, as announced by Minister Sivashankar in Coimbatore.

Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu is set to revolutionize its public transportation system with the planned acquisition of 500 electric buses, as announced by Minister Sivashankar during a bus flagging-off ceremony in Coimbatore.

The ambitious project will kick off with the procurement of 100 electric buses for Chennai city. A tender has already been issued for this initial phase, marking a significant step towards eco-friendly public transport in the state capital.

Following the deployment in Chennai, the remaining 400 electric buses will be distributed among other major cities in Tamil Nadu. Coimbatore, Madurai, and Trichy are slated to be the primary beneficiaries of this green initiative, which aims to reduce carbon emissions and improve urban air quality.

Minister Sivashankar made this announcement while flagging off 21 new buses in Coimbatore, emphasizing the government's commitment to modernizing the state's transportation infrastructure. The introduction of electric buses is expected to not only reduce the environmental impact but also provide a more comfortable and efficient travel experience for commuters in these bustling urban centers.

This move aligns with the broader national and global trends of transitioning to electric vehicles in public transportation, positioning Tamil Nadu at the forefront of sustainable urban development in India.
