Tamil Nadu Eases Electricity Connection Process for Certain Buildings

Tamil Nadu government simplifies electricity connection procedure by waiving Completion Certificate requirement for specific residential, commercial, and industrial buildings, effective immediately.

Coimbatore: In a move set to benefit homeowners and small businesses across Tamil Nadu, the state government has issued an order eliminating the need for a "Completion Certificate" to obtain electricity connections for certain types of buildings.

This significant decision applies to four categories of structures. Residential buildings not exceeding 14 meters in height with up to 8 dwelling units are now exempt from the certificate requirement. Similarly, houses with a built-up area of up to 750 square meters can avail of this benefit.

The order also covers commercial buildings not exceeding 14 meters in height and with a built-up area of up to 300 square meters. Perhaps most notably, all industrial buildings, regardless of size or height, are included in this exemption.

This move is expected to streamline the process of obtaining electricity connections, reducing bureaucratic hurdles for property owners and businesses. It aligns with the government's efforts to improve ease of doing business and simplify administrative procedures.

Interested parties can now apply for electricity connections online through the official TANGEDCO (Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation) website at https://www.tangedco.org/en/tangedco/online-services/onlinesernew/. This online portal facilitates a quicker and more convenient application process for eligible buildings.

The government's decision is likely to accelerate construction projects and business setups across the state, potentially leading to increased economic activity and job creation. It also demonstrates the administration's responsiveness to the needs of citizens and the business community.
