Man Arrested for Selling Tobacco Products at Tea Shop on Cross Cut Road, Coimbatore

Coimbatore police conducted a surprise raid on a tea shop in Gandhipuram, seizing 77 kg of banned tobacco products. The shop owner from Rajasthan was arrested and remanded to judicial custody.


Coimbatore: In a crackdown on illegal tobacco sales, the Coimbatore Kattur police arrested a tea shop owner for selling banned tobacco products on Cross Cut Road, Gandhipuram. The incident occurred on Sunday when the police conducted a surprise raid on the establishment.

The accused, identified as Dinesh Kumar from Rajasthan, was found selling tobacco products prohibited by the Tamil Nadu government. During the raid, the police seized a substantial quantity of 77 kilograms of banned tobacco items from the premises.

Following his arrest, Dinesh Kumar was produced before the court on Monday, July 10, and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. The action taken by the Kattur police highlights the ongoing efforts to curb the sale and distribution of prohibited tobacco products in the city.
