Bharathiar University Employees Stage Sit-in Protest on Campus

Bharathiar University employees staged a sit-in protest in the Registrar's office on July 5, demanding permission to conduct a general body meeting. The protest ended without resolution, with plans to continue on Monday.

Coimbatore: Employees of Bharathiar University staged a sit-in protest in the office of the Registrar, Dr. Roopa Gunaseelan, on Wednesday, July 5. The protest was triggered by the Registrar's refusal to grant permission for the Bharathiar University Officers' Association to conduct their general body meeting.

The employees surrounded the Registrar's office, demanding an explanation for the denial of permission. However, as Dr. Gunaseelan did not provide a satisfactory response, the protesting employees eventually dispersed.

Representatives of the Bharathiar University Officers' Association stated that they plan to resume their protest on Monday morning. They will continue to seek permission to hold their general body meeting, which they consider crucial for addressing various issues concerning the university employees.

This incident highlights the ongoing tension between the university administration and its employees. The employees' determination to hold their general body meeting, despite the administration's reluctance, underscores the importance they place on collective decision-making and addressing their concerns through proper channels.

The university authorities have not yet commented on the reasons for denying permission for the general body meeting or their plans to address the employees' demands. As the situation develops, it remains to be seen how the university administration will respond to the continued pressure from its employees.
