Coimbatore: Three individuals have been arrested for kidnapping a young man near VOC Park in Coimbatore and robbing him of money, mobile phone, and important documents. The incident, which occurred recently, was the result of a land dispute in Dharapuram, Tiruppur district.
Damodaran (31), a farmer from Achaiyur in Dharapuram, owned 35 cents of land on Dharapuram-Palani Road. He had agreed to sell this land to Hariprasad (34), a construction businessman from Thasampatti, Dharapuram, for Rs. 2.50 crore. Hariprasad had initially paid Rs. 8.25 lakh, but a dispute arose regarding the remaining amount.
On the day of the incident, Hariprasad invited Damodaran to Coimbatore for negotiations regarding the land. When Damodaran arrived near VOC Park in his car, two young men threatened him and kidnapped him in his own vehicle. The kidnappers then forcibly took his ATM card, extracted the password, and withdrew Rs. 30,000. They also stole his mobile phone and land documents before fleeing.
Damodaran filed a complaint at the Race Course Police Station. During the investigation, it was revealed that the incident was instigated by Hariprasad due to the ongoing land dispute.
Subsequently, the police arrested three individuals: Hariprasad, Praveen Kumar (37) from Ganapathi Sanganur, and Babu (38) from Perumal Kovil Street, Saravanampatti. Two more suspects, Senthil and Johnson, have been booked, and the police are currently investigating their involvement as of June 5.
