Release of 'Kavundampalayam' Film Postponed Amid Controversy

Director Ranjith announces postponement of 'Kavundampalayam' film release scheduled for tomorrow. He plans to seek support from Chief Minister and Information Minister amid threats and opposition.

Coimbatore: Director and actor Ranjith has announced that the release of his film 'Kavundampalayam', originally scheduled for tomorrow, will be postponed. He stated that he would meet with the Chief Minister and the Minister for Information to seek support for the film's release.

Ranjith, who had earlier filed a complaint with the Coimbatore City Police Commissioner regarding opposition and threats to the film, later addressed the media. He expressed his disappointment, saying that many people are actively trying to prevent the film's release, and theater owners have conveyed their concerns.

The director explained that the film explores themes of theatrical romance and parental anguish, which have faced opposition from various quarters. He acknowledged the difficulties in making a film and asserted that all his statements were truthful. "I am not a politician. The success of this film will be my response to those who oppose me," Ranjith stated.

Despite obtaining a censor certificate, Ranjith revealed his inability to release the film as planned. He refrained from naming those opposing the release but expressed his intention to seek permission from the Tamil Nadu government for a swift release. "God will take care of every decision I make from now on," he added.

Ranjith emphasized his honesty and truthfulness in making the film. He accused some individuals of threatening theater owners, warning of disturbances if the film is screened. Stressing the importance of theater security, he described his work as a story about theatrical romance and a good family narrative.

The director expressed his frustration at being hindered as a simple artist through intimidation tactics. He concluded by regretfully confirming that the film would not be released tomorrow as originally planned.
