Two girls drown in pond in Dharmapuri

Two girls drowned in a pond located on an agricultural land near Bommidi in Dharmapuri district on Saturday. The incident took place when the girls went to bath in the pond.

The deceased were identified as G Kowsalya, 12, daughter of Govindan of Karahalli village, and her cousin P Sindhu, 15, daughter of Periyasamy of Thippireddyhalli village. Sindhu was a Class 9 student, while Kowsalya was a Class 7 student. Both studied in government school in their villages.

On Saturday afternoon, the two went to the pond located on the nearby agricultural field to take bath. As they ventured deep into it, the duo got stuck in the mud and drowned.

When villagers came to know about the incident, they informed the Bommidi police, who reached the spot and retrieved the bodies. The bodies were then sent to the government hospital in Bommidi for post-mortem. Police have registered a case and further investigations are on.
