Coimbatore Farmers Submit Petition Against Pipeline Installation Through Farmlands

Farmers from Irugur to Muthur in Coimbatore have submitted a petition on June 29 protesting against the installation of an oil pipeline through their farmlands, urging rerouting alongside roads.

Coimbatore: Local farmers are up in arms against a project undertaken by Bharat Petroleum to install oil pipelines from Irugur to Bengaluru, which involves laying pipelines through the farmlands till Muthur. The agriculture-dependent residents have expressed their concerns about the possible negative impacts on their lands and livelihood.

Today, a group of farmers submitted a petition to the Coimbatore District Collector's office, demanding that the pipeline be rerouted to run alongside the roads instead of through the agricultural lands. This move comes as a part of their ongoing effort to protect their farmlands and ensure no disruption occurs to their agricultural activities.

As the situation develops, further updates and responses from the Coimbatore District Administration and Bharat Petroleum are awaited.
