DMK Leaders Acquitted in Five-Year-Old Protest Case

Coimbatore court dismissed the case against former DMK district secretaries and others linked to a protest on August 27, 2019, against previous AIADMK administration, citing mismanagement.


Coimbatore: In a notable court ruling today, several members of the DMK, including former district secretaries M. Muthusamy and Thendral Selvaraj, were acquitted by the Coimbatore JM.7 Court. The case stemmed from a protest held on August 27, 2019, outside the South Zone office of the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation, criticizing the management of the previous AIADMK government.



The other acquitted individuals include Public Committee Member Kurichi Prabhakaran, Kuniyamuthur Area Secretary Lokanathan, Gudalur Municipal Chairman Aarivarasu, former Goundampalayam Area Secretary Mathiyazhagan, Veerapandi Karthi from the Congress, CPI(M)’s Nagendran, and Mohammed Ali from the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi. Senior advocate K.M. Thandapani, along with a group of party lawyers, represented the accused.
