Coimbatore: In a tragic incident, over 50 people have lost their lives after consuming illicitly brewed liquor in Kallakurichi. The incident has caused a massive uproar across the nation, with leaders from various political parties condemning the negligence. In response, a significant protest was organized by BJP supporters in front of their office on V.K.K. Menon Road in Coimbatore's Gandhipuram, accusing the DMK government of failing to stop the sale of such harmful substances.

During this protest led by BJP State General Secretary A.P. Muruganantham, innovative methods of protest were displayed, including women wearing garlands of liquor packets and demonstrations with tied cloth bands. The police arrested more than 500 participants as the protest proceeded without permission, leading to skirmishes between the police and BJP members, causing a briefly chaotic situation in the area.

Further on, cases have been filed against former BJP councillor A.D. Rajan and 18 others under various charges including obstructing government officials and causing public nuisance at Katoor Police Station.

The protest, which has caught the attention of various officials and the public, challenges the state's ability to regulate and control the illegal sale of liquor, which has had deadly consequences. Local authorities are urged to take stricter actions to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
