Special Camp for Transgenders Launched by District Collector in Coimbatore

District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati inaugurated a special camp for transgenders at the Coimbatore District Collectorate, offering various IDs and health insurance options under government schemes.


Coimbatore: A significant initiative aimed at supporting transgender community members was inaugurated at the Coimbatore District Collectorate, by District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati. Organized by the Social Welfare Department, the camp aims to assist transgenders in obtaining essential identity and health insurance cards including Aadhaar card corrections, voter IDs, and cards under Ayushman Bharat and Namma Vikas schemes.



During the event, District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati emphasized the administration's commitment to providing full social security and acceptance to transgender individuals, ensuring they are recognized as integral members of society. These cards facilitate access to medical treatments worth up to Rs. 5 lakhs, with some surgeries being covered up to Rs. 22 lakhs under the Chief Minister's comprehensive insurance plan.



The camp saw the participation of over 250 transgenders from the region. Key officials such as the District Social Welfare Officer Ambika, and the District Distribution Officer Gunasekaran were also in attendance.

Besides the provision of identity cards, the campaign is set to spread awareness about the availability and benefits of various government schemes tailored for the transgender community. The Collector further extended an open invitation for future camps to ensure that assistance under these schemes reaches more people within their local communities.
